Founder and CEO statistics, 2026 edition

Founders burn out at coin-flip rates, CEOs report record struggles, and most of the numbers quoted about it online are copies of copies. What follows is what I can stand behind: original data from my practice, my assessment, and my reader surveys, plus published research verified line by line.

Original numbers

Data that exists only on this site

I coach 63 founders and CEOs across 13 countries. My assessment and site surveys produce numbers no publisher can copy, because the sample is my own practice and readership. The current headline figures:

76%
of assessed leaders scored below 75 of 100 on life satisfaction (n=29)
1 in 10
described burnout unprompted in my reader survey (n=83)
28%
of readers are navigating a career transition (n=83)

Pick your dataset

  • Founder burnout statistics 2026. The flagship page. My original assessment and survey data, 13 verified stats from Sifted, Balderton, Startup Snapshot, Vistage, and UCSF, plus the circulating numbers I checked and rejected.
  • CEO burnout statistics 2026. The executive side: DDI, Businessolver, Korn Ferry, Gallup, Challenger Gray, and what the leaders in my own orbit report.
  • Founder mental health trends 2026. 7 shifts with year-over-year numbers: burnout's plateau, the disclosure jump among CEOs, coaching's compounding growth, and the AI-fueled return of extreme hours.

How this section works: year in the title, never in the URL. When the numbers change, the pages change, and older figures move to an archive instead of disappearing. If anything here ever looks stale, email me and tell me off.

Behind the numbers

Why I publish this

Most burnout statistics online are copies of copies, unsourced and undated. I lived the statistic: 6 companies, a complete burnout in 2020, a rebuild. So I hold this data to the standard I'd want as a reader: named sources, sample sizes, honest caveats, and original numbers from my own coaching practice. If the numbers make you want to act, start with the quiz or the Whole Human Framework.
