The Whole Human Leader · Published by Wiley

What if you could lead well without losing yourself?

The higher you climb, the more of yourself you leave behind. It doesn't have to be that way. This is a book about growing yourself, your leadership, and the relationships that matter, written by someone who had to rebuild all three.

About the book

The book I needed and couldn't find.

Leadership books usually ask how you can perform better. This one asks what the performing costs you.

I built six companies, collapsed in February 2020, and have since coached 67 founders, CEOs, and corporate leaders across 13 countries. Somewhere in there I went looking for this book, and it didn't exist. So I wrote it: part memoir, part manual, part meditation. It's for leaders who are succeeding by every external measure and quietly wondering if this is all there is.

Is this you?

This book is for you if

Your success feels fragile. The numbers look good, and you sense it could crack the moment you stop pushing.
You stopped asking what you need. Somewhere on the way up, everyone else's needs took the microphone.
You want to keep leading, minus the bill. The one your health, your relationships, and your sense of self keep paying.

One caveat: there are no productivity hacks in here. If that's what you're after, this book will disappoint you.

Inside the book

Four acts, one whole human.

Act I

The Breaking Point

Diagnosing silent burnout and the myth that you are the exception who can't break.

Act II

The Reckoning

The stories you tell yourself, and the shadow values that actually run your calendar.

Act III

The Whole Human Framework

Tools for growing the person, not just the leader: inner growth and identity beyond the title.

Act IV

Integration in Practice

Putting it to work in your company, your relationships, and your ordinary Tuesday.

“The leaders I admire most aren't the ones who never broke. They're the ones who broke, paid attention, and came back more whole.”

About the author

Peter Sorgenfrei

Peter built six companies over 15 years, across three continents, with earlier chapters at DaimlerChrysler, Toyota Motor North America, UBS, and Sony Music. Thirteen years in New York. Copenhagen now.

In 2019 he was running Holo, Europe's largest operator of autonomous vehicles, with 70 people across five countries. Two planes a week, millions raised, no listening to his body. In February 2020 the body stopped: six weeks lying down, twelve weeks out of commission, and a board that let him go while he was still in bed.

He rebuilt from there. Today he coaches founders, CEOs, and corporate leaders in 13 countries, and this book is the manual he wishes someone had handed him before the collapse.
