Learning to trust the team

Hey again,

Today, I wanted to share a story about learning to trust. We all know it's important, but putting it into practice can be a whole different challenge.

A leader I worked with shared how letting go of the need to control every decision transformed everything. Early in his career, he believed that strong leadership meant knowing everything and having all the answers. But he realized trust was a far more valuable tool over time. By trusting his team, he discovered a new sense of freedom and energy in his role, and the team rose to the occasion.

Fundamental shifts he made:

  • Empowered team members to take ownership of decisions, giving them confidence.
  • Reframed his role from making decisions to facilitating growth and learning.
  • Supported team autonomy while maintaining open communication.

It made all the difference; the results were beyond what he expected.

Your reflection: How much do you trust your team, and where might you be able to let go a little more?
