Learning to lead as a Founder

Nobody teaches you to lead before you're a founder. You learn it in real time, usually by watching your early decisions land badly and figuring out why afterward, which is a slow and expensive way to build the skill.

The founders who learn fastest share a habit: they treat every hard decision as data, not just an outcome. Not "did it work," but "what did I actually do, and would I do it again given what I know now." Most founders skip that second question and repeat the same pattern under a different name next time.

The other accelerant is honest outside feedback. Your team won't always tell you the truth about your leadership, not because they're dishonest, but because the power gap makes it costly for them. Someone with no stake in protecting you is the fastest way to see your own blind spots.

Learning to lead isn't a phase you finish. It's a habit of reviewing yourself honestly that either continues or quietly stops.

Leadership Development is where that honest review actually happens, on a regular basis.
