Cultivating Startup Culture: Key Strategies for Success
Startup culture doesn't get cultivated through a values doc written in the first month and never revisited. It gets cultivated through what the founder does under pressure, which is the moment everyone is actually watching.
The strategy that works isn't complicated: decide what actually matters, then make sure your hiring, your feedback, and your own visible behavior all point the same direction. Most founders get the first part right and never check whether the other two match it.
The second piece worth naming is speed. Culture set intentionally in the first twenty hires is far easier to keep than culture you try to retrofit at eighty, once habits and norms have already calcified without anyone choosing them on purpose.
If you haven't looked at your culture on purpose since the early days, that's the actual starting point, not a new initiative.
Leadership Development is where founders do that audit honestly, before it gets harder to change.
