Being present at home
Stop feeling guilty and do something about it.
As company builders, we're no strangers to hard work and dedication. But when it comes to balancing our professional and personal lives, it's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of running a business.
As a personal coach and advisor to founders and CEOs, I've seen firsthand how challenging it can be for entrepreneurs to balance work and family life.
Here are a few quick ideas to get you started to do something about it
Leave your f’in phone behind
Your phone is one of the biggest distractions from quality time with your loved ones. Try leaving it in the car overnight or putting it in a designated spot in the house where it's out of reach.
If you slip, ask your partner to hide it….
Schedule weekly date nights
Weekly scheduled date nights or family activities, dinner, board game night, a trip into the city, out to the woods, whatever it is, just put it on the calendar every week.
Winning by being present morning and evening
Be present for your family's morning routine. Make breakfast for everyone, get the kids dressed, or just be there calmly (no phone…) to talk.
Similarly, in the evening, be present during bedtime routines, reading stories, and having quiet conversations.
I’ve learned more about what goes on in my son's head when driving together, tugging him in, or sitting at a calm breakfast table than anywhere else.
Fix your day by deleting all non-essential stuff from your work life.
As entrepreneurs, we often wear many hats. To free up more time for family and relationships, try structuring your day by ruthlessly eliminating unnecessary tasks.
I suspect I can find 30%+ more time for you in your calendar and to-do list just by looking at it.
