Be the leader YOU are

You can hire an elephant to climb a tree, but hiring a squirrel is better.

This wise saying was told to me years ago, and I always considered it when I interviewed potential employees.

But the lesson from it also applies to us as leaders. We can want to be a CEO like Jack Welch, but if that’s not in our DNA, we’ll fail if we try.

In this video, I discuss how you can discover the type of leader you are and some ideas on how to bring it to life to run a successful and high-functioning team. (Hint: I’m a big advocate for getting rid of the empty promise of “my door is always open.”)
