Unlock Your Leadership Edge
Here’s something you don’t often hear in pitch meetings or product updates:
You can hire for execution. You can raise money for growth.
But if you’re disconnected from yourself, from your triggers, blind spots, rhythms, values, it will show.
In your culture. Your decisions. Your relationships. Your team’s ability to trust you.
Self-awareness isn’t some founder luxury. It’s a foundational leadership skill.
So let’s make it practical. Here’s how I help founders build real self-awareness, the kind that translates into better decision-making, calmer leadership, and stronger companies.
1. Your inner operating system is already running, you just haven’t debugged it yet.
You walk into a board meeting.
Someone challenges your strategy. You get defensive.
You leave the meeting thinking: Why did I react like that?
That’s not random. That’s your OS, your stories, your patterns, your default loops.
Self-awareness starts with naming these patterns. Not fixing them immediately, just seeing them clearly:
- How do you respond to challenge?
- What triggers anxiety or withdrawal?
- When are you most energized? Most depleted?
What you notice, you can begin to change.
What you ignore will keep driving the car.
2. Your calendar shows you who you are. Your reactions show you who you pretend to be.
Want a shortcut to real insight? Look at two things:
- How you spend your time
- How you respond when things don’t go your way
If your calendar is full of meetings that drain you, but you never say no, that’s a data point.
If your team gives tough feedback and you get cold or vague, that’s a clue.
Self-aware founders are constantly tuning in. Not judging, just observing:
This level of presence changes everything.
3. Feedback isn’t a threat. It’s a gift, if you’re ready to hear it.
Founders who grow the fastest are the ones who create a culture of real feedback.
But here’s the hard part: if you don’t model it, no one else will.
Ask your team:
- “What’s one thing I do that makes your job harder?”
- “Where do I show up small?”
- “What am I missing that everyone else sees?”
You don’t have to take every piece of feedback as truth. But every piece is a mirror.
And mirrors, used wisely, are incredible tools for growth.
4. You can’t scale self-awareness alone.
You can read all the founder blogs.
You can journal every morning.
You can be the most thoughtful person in the room.
But without external reflection, your awareness stays limited.
That’s why I coach. That’s why therapists matter. That’s why every founder I know who’s still standing after Series C has someone who reflects them back to themselves.
You need someone to say:
This is how you grow not just your company, but your capacity.
Final thought: The version of you that got here may not get you there.
The greatest gift you can give your company is a clearer, calmer, more grounded version of yourself.
Not because you’re perfect. But because you’re present.
Self-awareness isn’t a one-time insight. It’s a lifelong edge.
And it compounds, quietly, powerfully, daily.
Want help building that edge? This is where my coaching starts.
