The art and science of getting funding for your startup

Someone asked me recently how to get funding for their startup after having sent a bunch of messages out in the world to no avail.

I responded with the following:

Getting funding is equal parts art and science:

1. Science: having the right story, material (deck, financial model), team, traction, etc. when you start the fundraising journey.
2. Art: whom you know, or more importantly, who knows of you, how you connect and interact, and what you say and when.

I then proceeded to suggest a call to walk through what they had and had done and see if I could help.

Maybe I should do a follow-up post on the classic shortfalls when trying to raise funding?
