Control

When you see that word, does it bring up a negative or positive connotation for you?

I was discussing the topic of control with a female founder the other day.

The idea of control is pretty complicated and often gets a bad rap. Nobody wants to be around a control freak and there are many things about the word that bring up harsh imagery.

However, I think control is the lifeblood of a successful leader.

Control will drive you from where you are to where you want to go… if harnessed properly.

What do we need to control?

Control of your thoughts is essential.

It’s easy to let negativity creep in on a daily basis. But when it does, we can control whether we let it stay in our minds and fester, or acknowledge it and show it the door.

Controlling our thoughts means controlling our attitudes… which ultimately means peace and productivity.

We can control who we surround ourselves with.

Are they people who lift you up and bring you joy, or do they drag you down? Shedding poisoned relationships is a really powerful control we have available to us.

How we nourish our bodies and minds are within our control. Are we getting enough sleep, exercising regularly, eating the right foods and feeding our brains by reading and meditating?

Who controls all that? You.

Finally, if you’re doing all of the above, it’s easier to control your actions and efforts. You’ve got a finely tuned engine that is ready for the challenges that await.

It’s all in your control.
